HORACE "RED" CALCOTE SR's Obituary
Horace "Red" Calcote, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 24, 2025, at the age of 90 in DeRidder, Louisiana. Born on August 25, 1934, in Rosepine, Louisiana, Red was a lifelong resident of the area, where he cultivated deep roots and a rich legacy that will resonate through generations.
Red was born to Collin and Willie Mae Calcote, who instilled in him the values of hard work, love for family, and integrity. Throughout his life, he exemplified these values, becoming a pillar of strength and support for his family and community. He was preceded in death by both his father and mother, Collin Calcote and Willie Mae Gill, as well as his beloved wife of 65 years, Pansy Virginia Calcote, and his son, Horace "Buster" Calcote, Jr. He was also preceded by his cherished brother and sisters, Maurice Calcote, Dorothy Cordell, Peggy Elser, and Carrie Doyle.
Red's family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his son, Bradley Calcote, and his wife, Tracie of Rosepine, LA; daughters, Virginia Wydet Lambert and Diania Berry, both of Rosepine, LA, and Misty Calcote of Rosepine, LA. He also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Donette Calcote of DeRidder, LA, and a brother, Donald Calcote. Red was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren: Logan, Brady, Ryan, Ashlee, Tobi, Tyler, Kristi, Laci, Wendy, Brodi, Carla, and Jessica. His family continued to grow, and he was the adoring great-grandfather to 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry his memory forward in their hearts.
An avid outdoorsman, Red found joy in fishing and deer hunting, often sharing these passions with his family. He cherished the time spent on his tractor, tending to the land he loved. His connection to nature was only rivaled by his deep love for his family; he took great pride in their accomplishments and was a steadfast supporter in all their endeavors.
Red will be remembered as a hardworking and loving man who made an indelible mark on everyone who crossed his path. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and he was never partial in his affections, treating each family member with equal love and respect. Red's legacy of caring for others and embracing life to the fullest will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana, with Rev. Danny Wilson and William "Bill" Loftin officiating. The interment will follow at Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana.
The visitation will be on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home.
