Mrs. Hettie Opal Morgan's Obituary
Funeral services for Mrs. Hettie Opal Morgan,98, of DeRidder, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 18, 2023 in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA with Rev. Tim Bergen officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in DeRidder. Services are entrusted to the care of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Visitation will be Friday, March 17th from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hettie Opal Morgan was born on February 7, 1925 in Neame, LA. She passed away on March 14, 2023 at Westwood Manor in DeRidder, LA.
Mrs. Hettie was educated in the Port Arthur, Texas School District, graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1943. She was employed with Gulf Oil Corporation in September of 1943. She worked in the Data Processing Unit of the Accounting Department, retiring in April, 1977.
After her retirement, Mrs. Morgan and her husband moved to their retirement home on her family’s farm located in the Broadlands Community, near DeRidder, LA. She loved gardening, processing fruits and vegetables and was especially interested in growing and drying culinary herbs. She was a member of the Broadland Homemakers for many years and enjoyed working in the various activities offered to the clubs in the Parish. She was active in the annual Parish Agricultural Fair and loved the friendly competition between the parish ward booths.
Mrs. Morgan was an active member of First Baptist Church in DeRidder and the Broadlands Bible Church near her home. She took part in many Senior Adult activities each church offered and loved Sunday School and Bible Study. She liked to share some of her favorite Scripture verses with family and friends by inserting one or two verses in notes, letters and cards she mailed them. Among the verses she loved to share was “Trust the Lord with all thine heart: and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all the ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths”. Proverbs 3:5-6
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ora and Bessie Asby Coots and husband of over 49 years, Autrey H. Morgan.
She is survived by her sister, Karan Banks & husband, Jerry of DeRidder; sister-in-law, Barbara “Bobbie” Morgan of Beaumont. nephews, Brian Banks & wife, Tammy of Houston, and Howard Sims of Houston; nieces, Gay Lynn Hardcastle & husband, Earl of Texas and Charlotte Banks of Nederland; great nephews, Mitchell Banks of Houston, Chris Hardcastle & wife, Monica of Texas and Cody Hardcastle & wife, Stephanie of Texas and great niece, Morgan Hicks & husband, Dr. Casey Hicks of The Woodlands, Texas.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jerry Banks, Brian Banks, Mitchell Banks, Howard Sims, Chris Hardcastle, and Cody Hardcastle.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial be made to “God’s Food Box”, the Gideons International; Broadlands Bible Church Building Fund; or to a charity of choice.
