Those of you who knew Herman or crossed paths with him, knew him as like a walking history book. If you Crossed paths with him you knew that you would be learning about the wars and be sitting with him for a few hours. Being a person who loved to learn about history, I enjoyed sitting with him and hearing his stories when I could. He had a strong will, and very sharp mind and was able to remember so much. Watching him talk about the wars, his life, and family brought life into him. You swear his mind was like a computer, that could look up any information dealing with war and the world’s history. He wouldn’t even stumble on his words or have to try to remember anything. The words just came out of his mouth like listening to a recording. He loved his family very much and was very proud of his son. When he would say that he was planning a trip to go see his son he was so excited about it. When he would come back, He would talk about his adventures and all the things they would do. He also loved the casino, if you wanted to find him he would only be in 3 places, his sons, his house, or the casino. I was very sad to hear the news about his passing cause it’s been awhile since I seen him and I started to think back of all the times I had the chance to sit down and hear his stories. I remember one day asking him for some pictures to add to my family photo album and the next time I seen him he gave me 3 pictures. One of them was a picture of him in the army, and when he presented it to me, he asked do u know who this is ? I said is that you? He tried to joke about it and acted unsure but the smile on his face gave it away. My uncle Herman was the only one, on my dad’s side that I had the pleasure of meeting and would come around and see us. My grandfather which is his brother Pete, would go and sit and have coffee with him in the mornings and they would even go and watch movies together, at the casino. Herman told me of the time he took my grandfather to see a movie called Gran Torino. He knew my grandfather was a fan of Clint Eastwood. So he told me in the show at the end, when Clint was shot and killed he looked over at my grandfather and seen tears pouring out his eyes and so he leaned over and said, Pete are u okay? And while he was telling me the story he was overwhelmed with laughter. I really appreciated him for always being there for my grandfather and I know that there spirits are hanging out again together. My uncle Herman was a great man who cared so much about his family and if you ever had the pleasure of sitting down and hearing his stories you would know how he lived with no regrets and he did everything he put his mind too and he had no shame in his actions and loved what he did. He will be missed, and always remembered.
