Helen Evon Green Guillory's Obituary
Helen Evon Green Guillory (nee Stuckey), 90, a beloved mother and cherished friend, was born in rural Natchitoches Parish near the town of Robeline to sharecropper parents Floyce Vivian Day and Guy David Stuckey. She passed away from this earthly life on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in Silsbee, Texas. She spent part of her early childhood living near Fort Jesup, where she played with other children in the old fort kitchen. Her family moved to the DeRidder area when she was about 8 years old. Going to school in DeRidder, she was active in sports and the community.
She started a new chapter in her life when she married James (Jay) A. Green, Sr. of Dry Creek in 1950. She worked various jobs in the food industry to help the family get by. After her son was born in 1957, she worked as a waitress at the Park Motel and then The Oaks Restaurant. Later, she worked at West Brothers/West Gibsons before being co-owner of a record shop in Kinder in the late 1970s. At one time she was the manager Shoe World in DeRidder, was a customer service representative at Walmart, and was employed as an administrative clerk/emergency room receptionist at Beauregard Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Guillory liked Blue Grass music, crocheting, reading, crosswords, and travel. Many people may not realize that she liked squirrel hunting, though she claimed to not have the patience required for hunting deer.
After the death of husband Jay Green in 1999, Helen married her second husband, QL Guillory. Before his death in 2020, she and QL had made several vacation trips around the US. She cared deeply about family, community, and church. At the time of her death, she resided in a nursing home in Silsbee, Texas, near one of her sisters.
Left to cherish Helens memory is her son, James A. Green II and wife Annilois of Hammond; sisters, Clara Williams and husband Don of Silsbee, TX, and Ruby Cole and husband Tommy of DeRidder; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family through her second husband.
