HAROLD "MICKEY" COHEN's Obituary
Funeral Services for Harold “Mickey” Cohen, 80, of Leesville, LA. Services will be held Monday May 28, at 11:00 A.M.
Labby Memorial Funeral Home chapel in Leesville with Marc Klein, Daryl Gold, Rev. Ken Graham and Rev. M.C. Green speaking. The burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Slagle, LA.
Mickey passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007
Mr. Cohn was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on March 13, 1927, the son of Irving and Mary Cohen. He moved to Leesville during his High School years. During WWII he served as a Petty Officer 3rd Class on the LCII in the China Sea. During the Korean Conflict he served in the 773rd Tank Battalion at Fort Polk.
“Mickey”, as he was affectionately known, opened the infamous Burger Bar in 1954. Several generations knew him as the “Burger King.” He later went into the Insurance Business, retiring in 1992.
Mickey was a member of the Lions Club for 35 years, taking great pride in his perfect attendance. He served in many capacities with the Lions, but was best known for his antics on the annual telethon benefiting the Lion’s Crippled Children’s Camp. Mickey was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Mickey was a member of the Life Underwriters Association, holding the designation of LUTCF. He loved the game of golf, the LSU Tigers, and the telling of a tall tale.
In retirement he was the leader of the infamous coffee club called the Romeo (Retired Old Men Eating Out.)
He is survived by his wife Billye S. Cohen of Leesville; Two Daughters, Jerri Gayle Cohen of Lafayette, LA and Denise Cohen Alcock of Alexandria, LA; One Son
Gary Michael Cohen of Lafayette, LA; One Brother, Donald S. Cohen of Atlanta, Georgia; One Sister,
Betty Cohen Balter of Miami, Florida. Three Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren
Pallbearers will be Daryl Gold, Mark Gold, Todd Gold, Brook Gold, Steven Balter, Marc Klein
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ricky Richards, Rusty Richards, David Colon, Jeffery Foster, Randy Foster, Clyde Price, Joe Tidwell, Bob Huey
