Gordon L. Brown's Obituary
Funeral services for Gordon L. Brown, 88, of DeRidder will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 12th, in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder with Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Barentine Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 12th, from 8:00 AM until service time in the funeral home.
Mr. Brown was born to George & Ellie Westmoreland Brown, a pioneer family in Leesville, La. He was a 1943 graduate of Leesville High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Army from November 1950 until August 1952, during the Korean War. Mr. Brown retired from the Trunkline Gas Company. He was a cattle and soybean farmer and former member of the Beauregard Cattlemen’s association, and the Beauregard Parish Farm Bureau. He was the owner and sole proprietor of BCF Services, a Forestry Service Company. He was also the owner and operator of DeRidder Sewing Machine Company, and was a 42 year member of the Star of Magnolia Masonic Lodge #238.
He served on the Beauregard Parish School Board from January 1965 through December 1970, and served as Vice President of the Board from January 1967 till December 1968. He was the individual who was most instrumental in the creation and building of the South Beauregard High School. The vision for that school occurred during his tenure on the school board.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Bettye Louise Barentine Brown, and his beloved son, Gordon Brian Brown.
He is survived by his two daughters: Gayle Pittman and Husband Glynn of Collinsville, Ms., and Beth Franklin and husband Gary of Lampasas, Tx.; 6 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren
