Gloria Jean Harper's Obituary
Gloria Jean Harper has moved to her new residence in her heavenly home on Monday, January 1, 2024, at the age of 85 years at her home in Sugartown with her family by her side. Gloria was born on May 30, 1938, in Pitkin to Willie and Annie Doyle Johnson.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Ludington Baptist Church located at 1409 Rose Street, DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024, with visitation starting at 9:00 AM and service will begin at 11:00 AM, at the church with Bro. William “Bill” Tisdale officiating. Interment will follow at Sugartown Cemetery in Sugartown. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Gloria was 50+ member of the Order of Eastern Star, Friendship Chapter 210 in Sugartown. She was the Postmaster for the Sugartown Post Office from 1981 until 2005 and she was the owner and operated of Harper’s Grocery from 1977 until 2005.
Left to cherish her memory are her son: Darron Glen Harper of Sugartown; daughter: Leisha Renee Best and husband Jerry of Jefferson, TX; brother: Glen Johnson of Leesville; sister: Shirley Ann Saunders of Elizabeth; grandchildren: Darron J. Harper and wife Kayla of Bossier City, Johnny Harper and wife Abbie of DeRidder, Casey Best and wife Cayla of Caldwell, TX, Trenton Best of Jefferson and Brennan Harper of Convent; great-grandchildren: Sebastian James Harper, Dominic Joseph Harper, and Conlee Carol Best; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents: Willie and Annie Johnson; son: Alan Wade Harper; brother: Shelby Johnson; former husband: Arna Lee Harper.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Johnny Harper, Craig Fontenot, Allen O’Kelly, Bruce Butts, Casey Best, and Jerry Best.
Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Darron Harper, Carlton Collins, Trenton Best, and Derek Saunders.
