Glen Firesheets' Obituary
In Anacoco, Louisiana, Glen Firesheets, 91 passed from this life at his residence surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 17, 2015. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville, LA. . Services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Robbyn Hunt and Reverend Dave Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Grove Cemetery in Anacoco, Louisiana under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral services.
Glen was born in Fisher, Louisiana, on April 22, 1924, to William Wallace Firesheets and Mamie Elizabeth Teasley Firesheets. In 1943, Glen graduated from Deweyville High School in Deweyville, Texas. Later that year, Glen began his service with the United States Army where he proudly served in World War II and the Korean conflict. Before retiring in 1965 as MSG (E8), Glen was awarded the European African Middle Eastern campaign medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, 2 Good Conduct medals and the Korean Service Medal with 6 Bronze Service Stars. With the military, Glen traveled throughout the United States, Africa, Italy, Germany, and Korea. After retiring from the US Army, he began a second career at Fort Knox, Kentucky with the U.S. Civil Service. In 1980, he moved to Anacoco, Louisiana to care for his aging parents. Glen was a member of Holly Grove Methodist Church in Anacoco, Louisiana. A quiet, private man, Glen loved spending time with his family, telling jokes, reading, cutting grass and fishing.
Glen is survived by his wife, Thelma Lucille “Lucy” Erickson Firesheets, daughter, Carla Moore and husband Ronald, granddaughter, Colette Moore of Anacoco, LA; brothers, William (WT) Firesheets and wife Ruth of Baton Rouge, LA, Bob Firesheets and wife Barbara of Zwolle, LA;sister, Lynell Doane of Panama City, FL;sister-in-law, Evelynn Firesheets of Florien, LA and a host of nieces and nephews.
Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel L Firesheets; brothers, Ben Firesheets and Jim Firesheets.
