Gilbert Gates, Jr.'s Obituary
Funeral service for Gilbert Gates, Jr., 71 of DeRidder, LA, will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012, at 2 PM., Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA., with Rev. Stacy Bradford and Rev. Hilton Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in DeRidder, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder. Mr. Gates passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012, at M.D. Anderson Medical Center in Houston, TX.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012, from 5 P.M. until 9 P.M., and Friday, April 13, 2012, from 9 A.M. until time of the service at Labby Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born in Abilene, TX, and was retired from the U. S. Army with 20 years of service and a Viet Nam veteran. He also retired from the U. S. Civil Service after 21 years of service.
Mr. Gates is survived by his wife, Alice Crutchfield Gates of DeRidder, LA;
4 sons, Ricky Lee Poteet and wife Lisa of DeRidder, LA, Gilbert Gates, III and wife Susanne of South Carolina, Gerald Poteet and wife Kathy of DeRidder, LA and Gregory Poteet and wife Stacey of DeRidder, LA; 2 daughters, Deborah Daw and husband Bobby of Center, TX and Angela Johansen and J.R. Herbert of DeRidder, LA; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Gates, Sr. and Rosalie Woodard Gates and sister, Erma J. Blanchard.
