Gerald L. Green's Obituary
Gerald L. Green, 73, entered peacefully into rest on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Gerald was born to Huey Leland Green and Ruby (Fletcher) Green on December 23, 1946, in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Visitation will begin Saturday, December 12, 2020, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, at DeRidder High School Gym, 723 O’Neal Street, DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be Sunday, December 13, 2020, Visitation will start at 2:00 PM and Service will begin at 3:00 PM, at Beauregard Parish Fair Grounds Exhibition Hall, 610 West Drive, DeRidder, LA with Rev. George Lee Glass officiating. Interment will follow Monday, December 14, 2020, at 11:00 AM, Lewis Cemetery, DeRidder, LA.
Gerald graduated from DeRidder High School in 1965. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from McNeese State University in 1970. He served in the United States Army, earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Having taught English IV at DeRidder High School for 48 years and serving as the Head of the English Department, he was a highly respected educator in Beauregard Parish. In addition to educating youth at DeRidder High School, he also engraved monuments at Welborn Monument and Fence Company for 40+ years. In prior years, he dabbled in many areas of trade including working at Boise Cascade, Labby Memorial Funeral Homes, Inc., teaching inmates at LCIS and working as a draftsman. He exemplified the qualities of a good leader, mentor and friend. His motto: “Plan your Work and Work your Plan.”
We were blessed to learn many invaluable life lessons from him in his 73 years. He was a true role model, whose love, support and encouragement helped shape the lives of many students over the years. He was a wealth of knowledge who always had a story to tell. He enjoyed hunting, telling stories, drawing, reminiscing with family and friends and showing off his exquisite penmanship.
Left to cherish his memory are his Daughters Kimberly Fierro of DeRidder, LA, Heather Holt and husband, Mike, of DeRidder, LA; Sister Paula Green, Grandchildren Lakyn Moldenhauer, Saidee Fierro, Dawson Fierro, Great Grandchild Baylor Green; Bonus grandchildren Clint Holt (Debbie), Justin Holt (Kallie), Tabitha Palmer (Jarratt); and many bonus great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by Parents Huey and Ruby Green; Brother Jerry Green; Sister Patricia White; and Wife Linda Green.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are John Welborn, Tim Cooley, Patrick Wertz, Robert Ensminger, Robert Kite and Ronald Thomas.
Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Stan Levy.
