George Washington Cooley, (named after our first president George Washington) the son of Bill and Lucy Cooley was born on February 22, 1940, in Slagle, Louisiana. He entered eternal rest Saturday, July 21, 2018 in Leesville at The Woodlands.
G. W (George) worked as a Roofer, Carpenter, high rise Window Cleaner in Maryland.
He is made of tough stuff, his parents were some of the toughest. He came from good healthy stock. He was a fighter and did not give in. He did not complain about his sickness. He had pain but if you ask he would say No, but you could tell by his behavior. He was a hard man to keep down. At the age of 27 he was in a motorcycle accident that changed his life.
He loved to play Bingo and the tables would call loudly to him. He would ask the time and if its Bingo time he was up and gone to play. He also had two sets of Dominos which he loved to play, loved to Bow Hunt and killed a 9 point buck, fishing on the Cane River where he caught a alligator which jumped out of the boat and had an article about it in the Leesville Leader. He also like to raise cows.
He was a faithful son to his parents, he was always there for them. He loved spending his money on his parents ( Brown Furniture knew him well).
He loved Jesus and after battling cancer, he will be singing gospel music with his siblings and parents, no more pain, no more sorrow all is gone. He’s healed.
The Woodlands has been his home for 15 year; he was happy and loved it there. He enjoyed feeding the wild turkey that would come up to him. The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to The Woodlands for being his continued friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
He is survived by his sister; Vernice Grantham of Nederland, TX., brother; Robert Cooley and wife Pat of Woodland, TX., numerous nieces and nephew and great friends and family.
