Tom the son of Rev. W.W. and Minnie Perry Knapp, was born February 18, 1925, in Leesville, LA. He passed away Wednesday, June 18th, in Leesville.
George Thomas “Tom” Knapp loved his church, his family, and his country. Everyone who knew him knew how important these aspects of his life were. Until his health became such that he could no longer attend church, Tom Knapp was at every service ---Sunday morning and night and Wednesday night. He loved teaching the Unity Class and serving as a deacon.
As a husband, father, and grandfather Tom Knapp stood tall. He always put is family’s interest above his own. He lived Christian values as an example for all of us. None of us ever doubted how much he loved us or how very proud he was of us.
Tom Knapp bled red, white, and blue. He believed in giving back to his nation and community and was elected to serve on the Vernon Parish Police Jury. Tom Knapp was a member of “the greatest generation.” He was a World War II Veteran of the South Pacific Campaign. Tom Knapp instilled in us patriotism and to honor those who serve our country.
All of these things and more are true of Tom Knapp. We could go on and on about the many things he accomplished and the lives he touched. However, the one thing Tom Knapp would want said about him is “Tom Knapp was a Christian.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. W.W. and Minnie Perry Knapp and siblings, Pauline Knapp Tibbitts, Walter Knapp, Bill Knapp, and Clifford Knapp.
He is survived by his wife Janis Hicks Knapp of Leesville; children, Susie Knapp Neubert and husband, Tom of Leesville & Brenda Knapp Corley and husband Mike of Leesville; sister, Jeraline Knapp Craig of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kimberly Redden and Rick Bretherton of Leesville, John David “J.D.” Redden of Leesville, Tabitha Neubert of DeRidder, and Thomas “Tommy” Neubert of Leesville; great grandchildren, Janalisa Paddy, Briar Paddy, Brianna Redden, John David Redden, Colby Redden, Shy Ann Redden, and Ryder Grace Neubert and numerous other family members and friends.
