Gary enlisted into the U.S. Army and served from 1966 to 1969. After the Army, he worked at Fort Polk as a Boiler Plant Operator until his retirement. He loved to play music on the guitar at any family function, and loved to piddle around the house and raise his cows. He loved his family especially his grandchildren where he would saddle up a horse and ride them around the fields. He was a true outdoorsman where he found joy in being on the water fishing or in the woods hunting. But most of all, he found love raising his children and two of his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Sherry “Janie” Harrod of DeRidder; daughter, Jana Fiedler and husband Robert of Watford City, N.D.; two grandchildren that they raised as their own, Devin Brown and wife Kelsey, and Victoria Flores and husband Luis; brother, Bob Harbison and wife Vercie of DeRidder; sister-n-law, Judy Harrod; grandson, Kyzer Fiedler; five great-grandchildren, Nova Jackson, De’Myah Watts, De’Lylah Watts, De’Shyah Watts, and LeiLani Flores, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
