Garth Simmons' Obituary
Garth Simmons entered peacefully into rest on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the age of 83 years, 0 months and 15 days, at the Calcutta House in Lafayette, LA with his family by his side. Garth was born on Saturday, December 24, 1938, in DeRidder, LA to LeRoy and Audrey Clark Simmons.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church of DeRidder, located at 2030 US-171, DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2022, with visitation starting at 9:00 AM until the time of service which begin at 10:00 AM, at the church with Rev. George Lee Glass, Pastor of Grace Church, Rev. Steve Graves, Pastor of First Baptist Church of DeRidder, and Rev. John Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in DeRidder. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Garth was a long-time member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He loved working outside especially in his yard, making sure it was kept up, visiting his neighbors and friends, and spending time with his family. He will be missed by those that loved him.
Garth is survived by his fiancée, Marietta Jenkins; daughter, Tanya Simmons; two sons, Kevin Simmons, and Edwin Simmons and wife Rosemary; grandchildren, John Simmons and wife Tricia, and Katy Smith and husband Cruise; great-grandchildren, Kade Simmons, Cooper Simmons, Judah Simmons, and Raelyn Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death his wife of 59 ½ years, Juanita Sue Simmons; brother, LeRoy Simmons; father, Rev. L. V. Simmons; mother, Audrey Simmons.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Geno Treifenbach, Dennis Simmons, LeRoy Simmons, Martin Schmidt, Barry Burton, and Keith Burton.
Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Milton Wisby, Bucky Nugent, and Isaac Whiddon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of DeRidder Building Fund.
