Gaillard Alvin Freimark's Obituary
Funeral services for Gaillard “Gail” Alvin Freimark, of Leesville will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Grace Bible Church with Pastor Larry Davis and Sandy Guynn officiating. The burial will follow in the Leesville Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 20th at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville, Louisiana.
Gaillard Alvin Freimark was born on the 30th day of January, 1928, in Allegan Township, Michigan, to Alvin Otto and Nora Shinevar Freimark. Upon graduating from high school in 1946, he joined the US Army Air Corps and served in the Pacific until winning an Army appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point. While at West Point, he became a Christian in 1949 by accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Graduating from West Point in 1953, he pursued an Army career, retiring in 1976 as a colonel.
In 1957 he married Miriam (Pud) Cook in Leesville, LA. Following his retirement from the Army, he and Pud returned to Leesville where they served together in ministry to their church and community.
Gail served as an Elder and teacher at Grace Bible Church. He served president of the local chapter of the Gideon’s International and as state chairman of Child Evangelism Fellowship. He gave back to his military profession by serving as a council member of the Officers Christian Fellowship and as president of the Association for Christian Conferences, Teaching, and Service, an organization dedicated to spread the Gospel to the international military community. Locally, he was an active member of the Lions Club and was associated with the Boy Scouts of America for 60 years, serving as District Chairman and earning the Silver Beaver Award.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Miriam (Pud) Freimark, son, Eric Freimark, daughter-in-law, Janet Woodward Freimark, brothers, Robert and Howard Freimark, and sister, Marilyn Freimark O’Donnell.
He was predeceased by one son, Stephen.
His legacy is as a man who always endeavored to serve Jesus Christ, follow God’s commandments, and help others to do so as well.
