Freddie Jeanette Cabra Evans' Obituary
Freddie Jeanette Cabra Evans, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Hornbeck, Louisiana, on November 30, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on August 27, 1942, in Leesville, Louisiana, she was the treasured daughter of Leo and Melmo Cabra, who instilled in her a deep love for family, faith, and service. Throughout her life, Freddie embodied these values, touching the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Freddie was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Melmo Leach Cabra; her cherished husband and love of her life, Benny Evans, with whom she shared over four beautiful decades of marriage; and her brother, Ted Cabra.
Freddie’s legacy lives on through her children: her son, Mark and Michelle Evans of Johnson Creek, Wisconsin; her daughter, Alyson and Jonathan Filson of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; and her daughter, Kimberly and Clint Ray of Lufkin, Texas. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Ann Lewis and her husband, Billy Lewis of Anacoco, Louisiana; and sisters-in-law Barabara Parker and Gloria Evans. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren: Justin, Hannah, Kaleb, Rebekkah, David, Abigail, Makenzie, and Melanie, as well as her beloved four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of special nieces and nephews. While her absence will be deeply felt, her spirit lives on through the love and care she poured into her family and community.
A proud graduate of Hornbeck High School’s Class of 1960, Freddie embarked on a lifelong journey of service to others. She was a woman of quiet strength and limitless kindness. Her hands were never idle, for over 40 years, she worked as a beautician. Her beauty shop was far more than a place of business—it was a sanctuary for clients, many of whom became like family. She transformed not just hairstyles, but also lives, offering compassion and companionship to all who sat in her chair. Her nurturing spirit extended well beyond her profession. Though she never sought attention, her love echoed in the lives she touched--her family, her church, her community. Known for her selflessness, Freddie devoted much of her time to caring for those in need within her community, often going out of her way to help those who were homebound. Her legacy will not be in grand accomplishments but in the small acts of love that made her circle brighter.
Freddie’s strong faith was central to her life. A longtime member of First Baptist Church and more recently First Methodist Church of Hornbeck, she found joy in serving her church family. Freddie truly embodied the hands and feet of Jesus, living her life with a servant’s heart. Her faith and service were not confined to Sunday mornings—it was the guiding light in her daily interactions. She was a proud founding member of the Beckcom Cemetery Association, dedicated to preserving the memories of those who came before her. Her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She made it her mission to be a source of comfort and support, reflecting Christ’s love in every smile and embrace.
In her later years, when her own health challenges arose, Freddie continued to inspire those around her with her resilience and unwavering trust in God’s plan. Even in her weakest moments, she remained a source of strength for others, offering encouragement and hope when she herself was struggling. Freddie’s life was a testament to her belief that faith, love, and service to others are the truest forms of worship, and she leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, devotion, and a heart full of love.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Hornbeck, followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bro. Wayne Chance and Bro. Bill Moon. Interment will take place at Beckcom Cemetery in Hornbeck, Louisiana.
