Fred Sills' Obituary
Funeral services for Fred Sills, Jr. of Leesville will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan 27th at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville with Reverend Tommy Kiker officiating.
Family visitation will be at 11a.m. with public visitation from noon until 2 p.m. The graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan 28th at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens in West Monroe.
Fred Jr. was born July 23, 1930 in Portland, AR and went home to be with the Heavenly Father January 20, 2022 in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents Pleasie F. Sills, Sr. and Eunice (Whitney) Sills, brother Robert Sills, sister Lena Mae Maza. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 66 years Peggy J. (Calloway); sons William “Freddy” (Susan), Robert “Bob” (Candy), Sherwood Alan (Kristy), and daughters Joan Shoults (William), Janell Titschinger (Rick), Janice Titschinger (Mike), Jennifer Stanley (Richard), Judith Boswell (Randolph); brother Irving L. Sills, sister Clara B. Nolan, and sister-in-law Melba Sills, and many nieces and nephews.
He served honorably in the US Navy during the Korean War where he excelled as an Electronics Technician. After the service he returned to West Monroe and worked several jobs before being hired by the civil service at Fort Polk. He moved his family to Leesville and eventually retired as an Electronics Technician. Fred Jr. was instrumental in maintaining and repairing communications and radar equipment during the Vietnam War for the US Army. He was also a longtime member of East Leesville Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. After retiring he spent all his time enjoying his family, particularly his 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
