Frances "Piffy" Thompson's Obituary
Funeral services for Frances “Piffy” Thompson of Leesville, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2012, at Family Worship Center in Leesville with Rev. Wilbur “Dub” Williams, Rev. Melvin Hatten and Rev. James Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Leesville Cemetery in Leesville, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm - 9 pm, Thursday, February 9, 2012, at the church and again Friday from 9:00 A.M. until time of service.
Mrs. Thompson, the daughter of Franklin and Bertha Cox Lancaster, was born September 2, 1922, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She entered eternal rest Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at Byrd Regional Hospital at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 5 days.
Mrs. Thompson was the Choir Director at the Calcasieu Tabernacle in Lake Charles until her family moved to Leesville in 1966. She led music for the youth group at Family Worship Center in Leesville for over 30 years; and she was a member of the “True Peace Singers” for many years. She served as church organist and was an elder at Family Worship Center. Mrs. Thompson also taught music and led Bible studies at her home.
During her working career she was the bookkeeper for Mrs. Austin Russell, Sr. at Merle Norman Cosmetics, and she retired from Beauregard-Vernon Funeral Home after 18 years of service.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Sterling and her husband, Kennith, of Leesville, and one grandson, Matthew Sterling of Leesville, Louisiana.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Thompson, son, Leslie Thompson and three sisters and one brother.
