F.B. "Buster" Coan, Jr.'s Obituary
Services for F.B. “Buster” Coan, Jr. will be held 11 am Friday, February 18, 2011 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home, Leesville. Reverends Kenneth Leach, Durhl Davis, and Jeff Smart will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Florien.
F.B. “Buster” Coan, Jr. was born February 20, 1926, Sabine Parish and passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Monroe. Buster was preceded in death by his parents Anabel Thaxton Coan and Frank B. Coan, and sisters Aline Maxie and Robbie Snell.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Evelyn Maurice Leach Coan; daughters, Annie & husband Truman Miers of Monroe & Linda and husband Ryman Johnson of North Little Rock, AR; granddaughters, Heather Johnson of Conway, AR, & Kelly Miers Davidson and husband Art of Okinawa, Japan; sisters, Jimmie Grace Craft of Rosepine, LA and Bobby Hall Wiggins of Anacoco, LA; maternal aunts & uncle, Ruby Thaxton Alford,Marline Hardon, Syble Davis, Etoy Elzey & Evon Thaxton and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be, Jimmy Ashfield, David Glaspie, Glen Cook, Delaine Dyson, Dennis Craft & Danny Craft.
Buster was raised in the Hornbeck area, where his grandfather had a cotton gin and ice house. He started delivering ice at a young age and knew everyone in the Hornbeck area. He traveled the pipelines with his dad, went to west Texas with land oil rigs and then settled in DeQuincy. Buster worked for the Offshore Drilling Company for twenty years and then the Phelps Correctional Center. After retirement, Buster and Maurice moved to Anacoco to be near family and childhood friends. They recently moved to Monroe to be nearer to their daughters. He served as a deacon at Temple Baptist Church and Eastern Heights Baptist Church in DeQuincy, and Anacoco First Baptist Church in Anacoco. He was currently a member of the Swartz First Baptist Church of Swartz, LA. He will be remembered for his love for his family, friends, overalls, and a cup of coffee.
Visitation will be at Labby Memorial Funeral Home, 5-9 pm, Thursday, February 17. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Self Cemetery (located behind Hodges Gardens), in care of Valerie Fitzenreiter, 8847 Plainview Road, Hornbeck, LA 71439; or to the charity of your choice.
