Evelyn Stagni Scalfi's Obituary
Evelyn Stagni Scalfi passed away peacefully in her home on April 7, 2021.
Due to health restrictions there will be a private family service, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home.
She was born Evelina Marie Stagni on November 13, 1926 to Stella Allemand and Domain Joseph "DJ" Stagni in Lockport, Louisiana. She lived her childhood in Houma before moving to New Orleans to attend Soule's Business College after graduating from high school. It was in New Orleans she met the love of her life, Robert A. "Bob" Scalfi, Jr. They married on April 15, 1950 and lived in New Orleans until Bob was recalled for active duty in the Korean War. Evelyn moved back to Houma while Bob was at war. Once Bob returned to the States, they moved to DeRidder to stay for the remainder of their lives. During their 57-year marriage, Bob and Evelyn embraced their life in DeRidder, enjoying their friends and belonging to many clubs and organizations.
Evelyn is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Her church was very important to her, and she was quite an active member in her earlier years. She devoted her life to her family and particularly loved her flowers as well as playing golf and bridge. Her travels with family and life-long friends were a special time in her life. As she said many times... she had a wonderful life.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Scalfi and son-in-law, Mark R. Anderson (whom she loved like a son) and Synthia "Sindy" Scalfi, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; her brother, Roy Stagni; and her sister, Verna Stagni Chauvin.
The family is most grateful to many caregivers who have lovingly taken care of her for years. Shirley Jones, Monica Wyatt and Jessica Hollie will forever be remembered as making her last years as comfortable and peaceful as possible. Special thanks go to Deanna Chamblee and her son, Cal, who have "kept her moving" for years as well as providing just a little ray of sunshine a couple of times a week. Special thanks also go to Companion Care, Heart of Hospice and Dr. Chris Granger who was always there when we needed him.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to a charity of your choice.
