On December 2, 2022, Eula Mae McLean Thomas passed peacefully at the age of 76, from this life into the next. She was born on September 29, 1946 in Sanford, NC to Dearris McLean, Sr. and Carrie McCormick McLean, both of whom preceded her in death.
She spent her early adult years in Washington, DC and Northern Virginia, working for various insurance companies as a claims analyst. In November 1978, after relocating to Leesville, Louisiana, she married Raymond Edward Thomas, who preceded her in death in March 2021. After moving to Leesville, she worked as a 911 dispatcher for the City Police for many years. After she stopped working, she was always looking for volunteer opportunities in the community and was welcomed with open arms at the ACS Lending Locker at Fort Polk, and most recently at the Helping Hands Storefront Ministries in Leesville.
Eula first attended Sandy Hill Baptist Church shortly after arriving in Leesville and was a member up until her passing. She volunteered in the church nursery and the children’s church program for many years.
Also known as Mickie/Aunt Mickie within the family, she leaves to mourn their loss, her youngest sister, Ms. Sarah McLean of Washington, DC, her 3 children, Elizabeth McLean-Pharr (Woody) of Fairbanks, AK, Daniel Thomas and Timothy Thomas both of Leesville, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dearris McLean Jr. and Edward McLean, and her sisters, Ms. Dorothy McLean, Mrs. Irene Quick, and Ms. Gladys McLean, as well as 2 nephews.
She also leaves behind a large church family and many, many friends throughout the community. Everyone loved her and her friendly demeanor and hugs are already being missed.
