Ernest Oliver Jarrell's Obituary
Ernest Oliver Jarrell, 99, of Hallsville, Texas was born on January 14, 1925, at home in Knight, Louisiana to Henry Jarrell and Lettie Holt Jarrell of DeRidder, Louisiana.
He graduated from Evan’s High School in 1942, married Daucy Jarrell also of Knight community in 1944, and served our country during WWII. They moved to Houston, Texas after the war and began their family while employed by Sheffield Steel for 29 years. They were happily married for 77-1/2 years.
He has served with his wife by his side in the gospel ministry for 57 years. He served as pastor in San Leon, Texas, Galena Park, Texas, DeRidder, Louisiana, Knight Louisiana and Marshall, Texas. He and his wife also served with “campers on missions” for several summers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lettie Jarrell and his wife, Daucy Jarrell.
He is survived by his daughter, Donice Brickey of Porter, Texas; son, Ottis Jarrell of Hallsville, Texas; four grandchildren, Shay Brickey, Meré Brickey Sparks, Stephen Jarrell and Stephanie Ford Jarrell; seven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, all of who he loved dearly along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
He passed from this life to his eternal home on June 7, 2024, at the age of 99-1/2. There will be a time for visitation with friends and loved ones, Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in the Knight Community (outside of DeRidder, La.) on June 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on June 15th, from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will follow at the Hinson Cemetery.
