Emma Harrison's Obituary
Funeral services for Emma L. Harrison, 78, of Leesville, will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, August 5, 2022 in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Leesville with Rev. Joseph Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories in Leesville.
Emma was born on August 25, 1943 in Negreet, Louisiana. She passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022 in Leesville.
Emma joined the Redland Baptist Church devoting her life to Christ at an early age. She attended Sabine High School. While attending Sabine High School she excelled in both athletics and academics.
Emma graduated with honors from Sabine High School in 1961. After graduating from Sabine High School, she enrolled into Southern University, Baton Rouge, La. While attending Southern University she majored in Math and Science. While at Southern University, she met and married Freddie Wade Harrison of Leesville, La, on September 1, 1965. After Freddie Wade was drafted to serve in the U.S. Military In 1967, Emma relocated to Leesville, La where she embarked on her career as an Educator.
While still in pursuit of her degree Emma began teaching at Vernon High School in 1967 as a Math & Science teacher. She later earned her B.S degree in Math & Science on May 26, 1969. Emma taught in the Vernon Parish School System for 32 years. 2 years at Vernon High School, 13 years at Simpson High School and 17 years at Leesville High School.
Emma went above and beyond her service as a teacher. She tutored countless of students within the community. She always taught that education was the pathway to success; therefore, no child was beyond reproach in her eyes. Emma believed that any child could learn if the one who was teaching really cared and took the time to administer a little patience and nurturance toward the child who was in pursuit of higher learning.
Emma was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Under the leadership of her Father In-Law, the Rev. M.W. Harrison, Emma became active in the church serving as a member of the Young Matrons Organization, at the old Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Emma continued her service at the new Pleasant Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joseph L. Garner, as a member of the Women of Virtue and Excellence Ministry (WOVE) until her health began to fail her.
On July 31, 2022, @ 6:30 a.m. Emma Harrison departed this earth. Emma is preceded in death by her Husband: Freddie Wade Harrison, Sr; Parents: Isom and Myrtle Drew; Sisters: Muraline Charles, Stella Ray Pough; Brothers: Sherman Drew, William Drew, and Robert (R.D.) Drew. Emma leaves to mourn her
son; Freddie Wade (Kidata) Harrison of Dallas Ga; daughter; Felicia W. Harrison of Leesville La; four granddaughters; Keiyana Harrison of Hiram, Ga; Kierra Harrison of Dallas, Ga, Kourtney Harrison of Dallas, Ga, Khloe Harrison of Dallas, Ga; one sister; Cora L. Hawkins, Florien, La; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.
