Ellie Voyiatzes Maskas' Obituary
Ellie Maskas was born in Mytilene, Greece, in 1926. She passed away December 20, 2011, in DeRidder, Louisiana, at the age of 85. Ellie came to the United States in 1947 after her marriage to Charles Maskas and became an American citizen in 1954. A true lady and a devout Greek Orthodox, she was a consummate mother, wife and friend who loved to cook and feed the world. Ellie was known by her family and close friends as “Yaya”, Greek for grandmother.
Ellie was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents and her brother in Greece.
Yaya is survived by her son Steve, daughter Eleni, son Stan and son Jim as well as nine grandchildren;4 great grandchildren and her sister, Katarina.
Visitation will be held at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder on Monday, December 26, 2011, from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. The Vigil Service after death, called the Trisagion Service, will be celebrated by Father Brendan Pelphrey at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder. Her funeral service, The Divine Liturgy, will be held at 11:00 A.M., also at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Beauregard Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
