Funeral services for Elder Harry H. Burns, Jr., 88 of Grayson, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church of Rosepine, LA with Bro. Lloyd Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Southwest LA Veteran’s Cemetery, Fort Polk, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Monday, January 13, 2014, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.
Mr. Burns was born on Friday, June 19, 1925, in Pelly, TX to Harry Burns, Sr. and Alice Ashley Burns. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. On February 15, 1947, he married Elaine Smith. He was a dairyman and later became a pastor of his church in Grayson, LA where he served for the past 50 years. Elder Burns passed from this life on Friday, January 10, 2014 at DeRidder, LA.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elaine Smith Burns of Grayson, LA; 1 son, Eugene Burns and wife Jan of DeRidder, LA; 3 daughters, Judy Hicks of Winslow, AR, Brenda Isabella of Bossier City, LA and Elizabeth Johnson of DeRidder, LA; 1 brother, Wayne Burns of Big Fork, AR; 4 sisters, Barbara Vachula of Catto Gap, AR, Miriam Brister of Mt. Ida, AR, Alice Strange of DeVille, LA and Vern Ray of Rosepine, LA; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ruben Burns. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McGee Mt. Rose Cemetery, c/o Susan Robinson, 2501 Hwy 126E, Grayson, LA 71435.
