Bill was your typical boy, tying cats’ tails together and putting spiders in his sister’s bed. He graduated from High School in Austin and went into the Army National Guard in 1951. He enlisted in the military in 1954 and was on leave when he met the first love of his life, Beadie in Jacksonville, Texas in April of 1955. They were married in December of 1956. They had three children that they dragged all over the world as he was stationed in Germany, France, Italy, Hawaii and the United States. He loved new places and people and the military afforded him the opportunity to embrace both. He served 27 years as a transportation NCO and drill instructor before retiring in 1984 to Leesville to his house on the lake. He retired four times after leaving the military; never having been able to sit and relax. He and Beadie opened Financial Strategies and closed it in 1996 when Beadie got sick. He then worked at Walmart, Era and LBM and finally retired in 2013 after meeting and marrying, the second love of his life, Anna Martin Wimberly.
He loved to meet people and never met a stranger. He loved to travel and spent many hours planning trips in his RV. But his greatest joys in life were his family and loved ones. He loved working with young people and was an educated mentor. He couldn’t stand not being busy. He loved being outside gardening and mowing or just sitting on his patio watching the ducks and geese on the lake. He always had a camera in his hand.
His indomitable spirit and loving heart will be with us forever. Never diminishing with time. We can rest easy knowing that he will watch over us forever, another angel on our shoulders whose memory we will always carry. Loving father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather.
