Edna Vern's Obituary
Edna Vern (Rummel) Cooley, age 86, went to sleep in death on November 3, 2013. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home in DeRidder. Burial will follow at Whitaker Cemetery. Andy Ebanks will officiate.
Edna was born in Atwood, Kansas on February 4, 1927. At the age of 12, her family moved to DeRidder, LA. She married Jimmie A. Cooley on December 11, 1943. Throughout the years, they worked together in the logging business, dairy, soybean, and truck farming. They were known for growing satsumas and muscadines. When not working, they would hunt, fish, and have family get-togethers. Edna was always helping other throughout the community. She truly believed there was more happiness in giving than in receiving as Acts 20:35 says. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she shared her love of the Bible with others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie A. Cooley; her parents, Joseph Isaac and Mary Jane Rummel; brother, Kenneth Rummel; sister, Dorothy Davis; grandson, Tommy DeLayne Moses and a son-in-law, James A. Bailey.
Survivors include her son, David Cooley and wife Shirley Jones; 3 daughters, Donna Bailey, Connie Jones and husband Donald, and Judy Moses and husband Tommy. She had 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 9 great, great grandchildren.
