Doyle R. Carpenter's Obituary
The Rev. Doyle R. Carpenter of Hornbeck, Louisiana joined hands with The One who hung the moon and stars on Monday, April 22, 2013 and crossed to his eternal reward.
Rev. Carpenter was born on June 27, 1928, in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Lonnie and Jessie Carpenter. He began his ministry of preaching God’s Word at the age of 22 years in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Rev. Carpenter was an ordained minister of the United Pentecostal Church International for 63 years. He helped establish a home mission’s church in Sioux Falls, SD, and pastored churches in Wardville, Boyce, Krotz Springs, Sieper and Hornbeck, Louisiana where he was the pastor/senior pastor for 45 years. He served as a City Councilmen for the Town of Hornbeck for 37 years where he helped bring many improvements to the town.
Rev. Carpenter always had a kind word and helping hand to extend to those in his community and congregation. He was a gentle soul who was loved and respected by many. Rev. Carpenter set forth an outstanding example of what a Pastor, friend, mentor, father, grandfather, brother, and man of God should be.
He was preceded in death by Mrs. Dorsia L. Carpenter, his wife of 51 years, and 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
He is survived brother, Rev. Mack Carpenter and wife Bobbie of Central, KY; son, John Carpenter and wife Judy of Hornbeck; daughter Marcia Lora and husband Rev. Steven Lora of Hornbeck, LA; grandchildren; Melanie Lyons and husband Artie of Hornbeck, LA, Tiffany Lora of Hornbeck, LA; Michael Carpenter and wife Ashley of Ruston, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Hornbeck United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Kevin Cox, Louisiana District Supervisor United Pentecostal Church International, officiating. Burial will follow in the Self Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 23rd from 5 pm - 9 pm, and on Wednesday, April 24th from 9 am until service time in the church.
A faithful soldier of the cross has now claimed his reward, but heaven’s gain is our sorrowful loss-----He will forever be loved and missed. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness” 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
