Born in Houston, Texas, to Mary and Theodore Maris, Dora made Leesville her home in 1968. As the wife of a military service member and firefighter, she was a supportive spouse and a devoted mother to three children. Throughout her career she worked at Levi's and Jordache apparel factories while serving as a Stanley products sales representative.
Her commitment to her community was evident in the many roles she held over the decades. She served as a Den Leader for the local Cub Scouts, held officer positions within the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, chaperoned Leesville High School band trips, and was a steadfast supporter of her children's academic and athletic pursuits.
Dora was a dedicated member of St. Michael's Catholic Church for 57 years. Dora's greatest devotion was to St. Michael's Catholic Church, where she was a familiar face, attending daily Mass for over 50 years. She served as a Eucharistic Minister for decades and had been a member of the volunteer cleaning crew since the 1970s.
Additionally, she was actively involved with the Ladies Circle and numerous other church groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; sister, Stella Munis; brother, Claude Almaraz; and nephew, Patrick Britto.
She is survived by her sons, George II of San Marcos and Raymond of Leesville; her daughter, Gloria Dickison and son in-law David Dickison of Alexandria, VA; and her sisters, Lily Carrillo of Lubbock, TX, Bea Maris of Houston, TX, and Helen Britto of Houston, TX. Dora was a cherished grandmother to Terence Navarro, Ryne Navarro, Katherine Dickison, and Samantha Dickison.
Her presence will be missed at Lamour Nails, Kustom Kuts Hair Salon, the Commissary and, most profoundly, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, where she faithfully occupied the same seat since the church's construction.
Dora was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother-an inspiration to many, she will be fondly remembered for her unwavering dedication and deep faith.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Allegiance Home Health and Healthcare Hospice and Palliative Care for their unwavering support and compassionate care.
