Debra Bonita Johnson's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Debra Bonita Johnson, a beloved mother, Nawna, sister, and friend, who departed this world on October 21, 2025. Born on October 28, 1957, in DeRidder, Louisiana, Bonita’s life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and unwavering strength.
Bonita was the cherished daughter of Almon and Erma Johnson, who preceded her in death along with her beloved daughters, Jennifer Johnson and Delilah Lopez, brother, Dennis Johnson and three infant siblings and her sister, Casiel Perkins.
She was a 1978 graduate of Pickering High School in Leesville. She was a lifelong resident of Johnsonville, LA area.
Bonita was the steadfast rock of her family, providing love and support that were the cornerstones of their lives.
She is survived by her son, Henry Lopez of Leesville, Louisiana, and her daughters, Colleen Dowden, along with her husband Dewey, and Victoria Lopez also of Leesville. Bonita took immense joy in her role as a Nawna to Rolan, Gaige, Warren, and Miranda, showering them with unconditional love and affection. Her grandchildren were not just her family; they were her pride and joy, and her bond with them was unbreakable. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Curtis Perkins; niece, Denise Gibson of North Carolina and nephew, Curtis Perkins of Leesville and three great nephews.
Bonita had a remarkable zest for life. She was finicky and a spit fire. She was an all-around creative artistic lady, with a love for sewing, painting, and growing flowers, especially Ivy’s. She found joy in good ole country music and western TV Shows and her love of wind chimes.
Bonita shared her life with her beloved cat named Possum, who was her constant companion for over ten years, and her loyal dog, Oliver, who kept her company during the quieter moments of life. Her home was filled with the warmth of her pets and the love of her family, which she nurtured with unparalleled devotion.
The family will honor Bonita’s life with a funeral service on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM, held at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville, LA. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her memory and the indelible mark she left on all our hearts. Burial will follow in the Drakes Fork Cemetery in Cravens, LA. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24th from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home.
Debra Bonita Johnson was not just a name; she was a spirit of resilience, a beacon of unconditional love most of all she was mother to her kids & Nawna to her grandchildren. Her legacy is one of strength, compassion, and also having a true green thumb—a reminder of the beauty in this world, and how love can transcend even the deepest of sorrows.
She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
