David W. Nichols' Obituary
David W. Nichols, 80, of Merryville, LA, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at a Lake Charles hospital. Mr. Nichols was a native of Beauregard Parish. He retired from the United States Army as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. He received 9 awards and decorations while in the service, including the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal and Army Commendation with Bronze Star for outstanding service. From 1974 to 1982, he served as Business Officer manager of Beauregard Memorial Hospital. From 1984 to 1987, he served as CEO(Administrator) of Merryville General Hospital. Mr. Nichols previously was owner/operator of Nick's Tac and Sew in DeRidder. He was very active in his community. He was a member of DeRidder Kiwanis Club, American Legion Beauregard Post 27, VFW, and the Masonic Lodge. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 25, 2010, from 4 P.M. to 9 P.M., and will continue on Friday from 8 A.M. until time of service at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral Services will be Friday, February 26, 2010, at 10 A.M. at the funeral home. Reverend Gerald Reed will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Cooper Cemetery in Merryville, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.
Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife of 19 years, Tina King Nichols of Merryville; two daughters, Shirley(Oren) Nichols Dupuis of Breaux Bridge, LA, and Patricia Nichols Plush of DeRidder, LA; two sisters, Joy Elise Keel and Daisy Geiger, both of DeRidder, LA; six grandchildren, Ryan James Dupuis, Ashley Elizabeth Dupuis Rooneem and husband Marcus, and Alaina Elizabeth Dupuis all of Breaux Bridge, LA; Jamie Nicole Plush, Brandon Gene Plush, and Paige Nicole Plush, all of DeRidder; three great- grandchildren, Jacie Layne Dupuis and Aiden Michael Dupuis, both of Breaux Bridge, LA; and Rilyn Nikhol Plush of DeRidder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Nichols is preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Stella Nichols; daughter, Shelia Edith Nichols; grandson, Errin Michael Dupuis; and sister, Joyce Royston.
