David G Barkley's Obituary
Funeral services for U.S. Army Master Sgt. (Ret.) David G. Barkley will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2017 in the First Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow in the Beauregard Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 14, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, and on Monday, May 15th from 12 noon until service time in the First Baptist Church.

Born on Feb. 20, 1930 in Fort Payne, Ala. to Jesse and Annie Barkley, he married Betty on Nov. 13, 1964 in Birmingham, Ala. Dave served in U.S. Army for 30 years, retiring in 1978 at Fort Polk, La. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Purple Heart following the Korean War along with other military honors through the years. Among his military decorations are the Purple Heart and Bronze Star along with other military honors. Dave worked in civil service as an industrial hygienist for 15 years at Fort Polk. He received a bachelor or arts in education degree from Northwestern State University in 1981. Dave was a member of the First Baptist Church DeRidder for 42 years and was a charter member of the DeRidder Optimist Club. He was a proud supporter of DeRidder High School athletics. Dave played minor league baseball for the Chattanooga Lookouts. He also coached Dixie Youth League baseball and softball.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and James Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Betty Barkley of DeRidder, La.; one son, Ben Barkley and his wife, Andrea, of Sweetwater, Texas; one daughter, Kandyce Barkley Peveto of Moss Bluff, La.; four grandchildren, Kathleen Barkley, Kristian Moss, Karli Moss and Kolby Moss; one great-granddaughter, Adalae; and niece, Sheila Patterson and her husband, David, of Rome, Ga.
