CPT Jonathan L. Ellis' Obituary
Memorial services for CPT Jonathan L. Ellis, will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 5 pm at the Naval Air Station Joint Rescue Base Fort in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Captain Jonathan L. Ellis was born on 24 February 1976 on Kincheloe Air Force Base, Michigan to Robert Ellis and Judy Edwards. Although CPT Ellis was born in Michigan, his school age years, and on, were spent in Texas. Captain Ellis joined the Army to attend Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 2004 after graduating from Texas Tech University. He attended Basic Training in 2004 and was Commissioned into the Corps of Engineers in April 2005. Captain Ellis attended Engineer Basic Course, and was assigned to 70th Engineer Battalion, Fort Riley, Kansas. Captain Ellis deployed with 70th EN BN, reset, and deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) (2007-2008). During his OEF deployment he too charge of 3rd Platoon, Alpha Company where he served as Platoon Leader through redeployment. Captain Ellis attended Engineer’s Captains Career Course in 2009, and was assigned to the United States Army Corp of Engineers, Philadelphia District where he served as Project Engineer at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware. Captain Ellis was then assigned to 1st MEB, HHC, Fort Polk, Louisiana in December 2011 and served on Brigade staff until moving to 178th (V), 46th Engineer Battalion in May 2012 to take command.
Captain Ellis received his; Associated Degree in Computer Electronics from Eastfield College (Mesquite, Texas) in 1998; Bachelors in Construction Engineering Technology from Texas Tech (Lubbock, Texas) in 2004; and Masters in Engineering Management from Missouri Science and Technology (S & T) (Rolla, Missouri) in 2009.
Captain Ellis is survived by his wife Sarah (Kim) Ellis, his son Tucker Kele Ellis (21), and daughter Jessica Ellaina Ellis (14), his parents, Bob & Jimmie Winchell & Judy & Daryl Edwards and siblings, Jeremy Ellis, Josh Edwards, Rachel Key, Dane Edwards and Daplne Delay.
Captain Ellis’ awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon and two Superior Unit Award Ribbons.
