Lt. Col. Thomas Bartley Petty, Ret.'s Obituary
Funeral services for Lt. Col. Thomas B. Petty, Ret., 87, of Lake Charles, LA, and formerly of DeRidder, LA, will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA, with Rev. Lindsey Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery in Florien, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Visitation will be held Monday, September 26, 2016, from 6 PM until 9 P M and from 9 A M until time of the service, Tuesday, September 27, 2016, all at the funeral home.
Tom was born October 28, 1928, in Florien, LA, to Raymond Jerome and Ora Lee Conerly Petty. He passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016, in Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, LA. He lived most of his life in DeRidder. He was a retired Lt. Col. In the U. S. Army serving in both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. He played football for McNeese Junior College for two years and completed his collegiate career with two years at the University of Houston, earning his B.A. Degree in Economics. He was also retired from the U. S. Civil Service where he was the supervisor at the Hackberry Petroleum Storage facility. While in DeRidder he was a member of the First Baptist Church of DeRidder.
Col. Petty is survived by his wife of 65 years Beth Petty of Lake Charles; five children, Bruce Petty (Joanne), Paul Petty (Dana), Lisa Smith (Ellis), Pamela Roper (Robert) and Karen Riffle (Dennis); one nephew, Raymond Petty of Texarkana, TX; eighteen grandchildren, forty-six great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Ellis Petty.
