Cheat Martin's Obituary
Funeral services for Cheat Martin, 73, of Hornbeck, LA will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Feb 16th, at the Gum Springs Baptist Church with Rev. John Lewing, Rev. Ronald Brown and Rev. Huey Haymon officiating. The burial will follow in the Prewitt’s Chapel Cemetery in Hornbeck, LA. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 15th from 3 pm until service Monday, Feb 16th, all at the church. Services are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Cheat, the son of Loyd and Evie Glaspie Martin, was born January 5, 1942 in Leesville, LA. He passed away Friday, February 13th, in Alexandria, LA.
Cheat was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish; he graduated from Hornbeck High School in 1960. He retired from the Louisiana Agriculture Department as a Forestry Manager. Cheat was one of a kind and was known for his red hat and he loved to fish. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 33 years Nita Mae Martin.
He is survived by his sons, Stuart & Kim Martin of Hornbeck, and Stephen & Kim Martin of Florien; daughter, Stasha Dowden of Hornbeck; sister Loraine Nelms of Hornbeck and six grandchildren, Brady Anderson, Cade Martin, Tyler Martin, Charlee Dowden, Ainsley Martin, and Tucker Martin.
