Charles Edward Saunders' Obituary
Charles Edward Saunders, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Anacoco, Louisiana on May 4, 2025. He was surrounded by the warmth of family as he departed this world at the age of 85.
Born on June 22, 1939 in Leesville, Louisiana to Delmer and Martha Herring Saunders, Charles grew up amidst the sprawling fields that would forever hold a special place in his heart. Alongside his siblings—he created cherished memories filled with laughter and adventure. The days spent fishing and hunting together were not just pastimes; they were moments that forged unbreakable bonds among them.
Charles served honorably in the Army during a time when duty called him to Germany—a chapter of his life he treasured deeply. His commitment to serving his country reflected not only his character but also instilled within him a profound sense of pride that resonated throughout all aspects of his life.
Family gatherings brought immense joy to Charles's heart; holidays like Easter and Thanksgiving became sacred traditions where love flourished around tables laden with food and laughter.
A man grounded by faith who found solace within the pages of the Bible, Charles lived out principles rooted deep within him—kindness towards others being paramount among them. He loved his cats. His gentle spirit extended beyond human connections as he welcomed every cat or raccoon that wandered onto his doorstep.
An avid gardener for many years. He enjoyed watching tennis and football—he always cheered for the Saints.
He is survived by; brother, Thomas Saunders (Sandra); sister, Frances Saunders Beason; nieces, D’Juana Beason; Cathy Howell Nielson; Susan Beason Davis (Hugh); Lisa Saunders (Larry); Angela Beason Covello (Dominick); nephews, Roger Beason Jr.; James Beason (Dana); Michael Saunders; stepdaughter, Cindy Squires (Paul) and stepson Carl. He is also survived by several great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews.
He is preceded in death by wife, Geraldine Saunders; parents, Delmer & Martha Herring Saunders; sisters, Pansy Carlton , Gayle Howell & Juanita Saunders Gornor and nephew Wesley Dale Saunders.
Funeral services honoring this remarkable man will take place on Tuesday May 6th at 12:00 p.m. at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville. Visitation will start at 11:30 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Rosepine Cemetery.
