A common sentiment is that there is no one exactly like Charles Calcote. He held a lot of interesting jobs in his life. He was very proficient in drilling water wells. He learned this as a young man working several years with Kenneth and Evelyn Harper at Harpers Water Well Service in Rosepine, LA. He drilled water wells from East Texas to Central Louisiana. Several area men worked through the years with Charlie at Harpers. He also moved houses for a few years as well. He worked different times for Rowan Drilling on land-rigs, off-shore, and in South America. Several area men worked with him during these years as well.
Charlie was a longtime logger. Several of his co-workers worked multiple decades with him.
Charlie and his family owned and operated 4-C Tire for a few years. One of his greatest jobs was watching, cheering, and teaching his children and grandchildren how to ride and rope. He and his family were long-time members of the DeRidder Riding Club, where he served as a board member for several years.
One of his greatest loves was hunting adventures, which included “coon” hunting, squirrel and rabbit hunting, deer and elk hunting, and hog hunting. He stayed as active as possible in his earlier years to which enjoyed team roping, and had several friends in that area.
Through his entire life, starting at the sale barn, Charlie had a love for raising cattle and farming that included his entire family. He will be greatly missed by us and all that knew him.
Left to cherish Charlies’ memory are his wife of 48 years, Glenda Sims Calcote of DeRidder, LA; mother, Lester Ashworth Boudreaux of DeRidder, LA; son, Brian Calcote and wife Kerry of Sugartown, LA; daughter, Cricket Calcote of DeRidder, LA; brother, Gary Calcote and wife Dawn of Rosepine, LA; four grandchildren, Abbyanne Dressel, Allie Calcote, Owen Calcote, and Bronc Dockray; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, in-laws, cousins, and a host of friends.
