Catherine "Cathy" Moore's Obituary
Funeral services for Catherine “Cathy” Moore will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009 in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville, with Rev. D.R. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Leesville. Friends may visit on Friday December 11 from 4 – 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9a.m. until service time in the funeral home.
Cathy was born in Leesville and was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish. She was a Christian and a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Anacoco. She is a member of the Leesville High School graduating class of 1970. Until her death, she resided with her closest childhood friend, Audrey Cowgill Garrison of Leesville.
Although she was physically disabled due to polio at age 5, she never let her limitations define her or slow her down. She kept a positive outlook on life, despite her challenges, and was an inspiration to those who knew her. She was a loyal and true friend to many.
Cathy loved to meet new people and make new friends. She had limited access to the world, however, she found ways to reach out to others and develop relationships. She was an avid “pen-pal” for many years. Also, she was a CB radio operator in the 1980’s, with the handle, “bookkeeper”. She was also a licensed HAM Radio operator with the call sign KD5AWC. Cathy loved to “surf the internet”. The internet opened up opportunities for making friendships and seeing the world from her home. More recently, she became mobile with a new van and loved to buzz around town, shopping and dining out.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Randolph “J.R.” and Elgin Carol Branch Moore, and her husband Jimmy Shipman. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Faye Moore of Pineville, La., her Aunt Faye Watkins of Cotile, La., her uncle John D. Branch of Angleton, Tx., and her aunt Mickey Moore of Plano, Tx., and a host of cousins and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Than Vo, Easter Seals of Louisiana and the staff of Gulf Coast Home Care, for years of dedicated service and support. Also, special thanks to Audrey Garrison, Rev. D.R. Davis, the Gohr family, and Tricrece Kidd for their love and support of Cathy.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CASA of West Cenla: 1118 North Pine St. Suite G DeRidder, LA 70634
