Bruce D. Westmoreland's Obituary
Bruce D. Westmoreland, of Leesville, LA, died peacefully in his home on October 16, 2025, at the age of 87.
Bruce D. Westmoreland was born on March 27, 1938, in Port Arthur, TX, to the late Luther Lee Westmoreland and Jennie Eola McCutcheon Westmoreland.
On July 27, 1963, Bruce married the love of his life, Alice Marie Haynes, and together they built a beautiful life, first in Port Arthur, TX, and then in Leesville, LA. They were married for over 62 years.
Bruce was known for his mischievous sense of humor, love of children, and his passion for nature and the Old West. He was a true cowboy.
Bruce was a veteran of the Naval Reserve and the United States Army. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in 1955 and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Lamar University in 1964. In 1973, Bruce graduated from Northwestern State University with a Master’s Degree in Education.
He had a successful career in education for nearly four decades, first as a 6th grade teacher and then as an assistant principal in Vernon Parish. In later years, Bruce taught adult education classes at the Louisiana Technical Community College and became an adjunct instructor for NSU, supervising student teaching. He was beloved by his students and faculty, and he made learning fun.
Outside of work, Bruce had a deep love for ranching and farming, crossword puzzles, and reading -- his favorite author was Louis L’Amour. Bruce enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like sitting in his favorite chair, drinking sweet tea, and watching the birds through the window. Bruce was known to show his love and affection through acts of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Leesville and taught RA classes for many years.
Bruce was a devoted father to Kade Westmoreland (Nicole) and Cody Westmoreland (Margaret). He was a proud Poppy to his grandchildren, Lauren, Sarah, and Finley. He will be deeply missed by his niece, Jennie Allen (Scott), and his nephew, Clay Holloway (Jamie).
Bruce is preceded in death by his siblings, Glenda Holloway and Ken Westmoreland.
Bruce leaves a legacy of love and Christian kindness. His contributions to the life and family he built will continue to influence and inspire future generations. He will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him, especially the countless students and educators touched by his work. Most of all, he will be remembered simply as a good man.
