Bobby Earl Slaydon, Sr.'s Obituary
Bobby Earl Slaydon, Sr., 73, of DeRidder, LA left this world for his heavenly home on Monday, January 13, 2014, from Acadian Medical Center in Eunice, LA.
Bobby was born on December 26, 1940, in DeRidder to Nick and Dewel Slaydon. He was a 1960 graduate of DeRidder High School and thereafter attended college at Hinds Jr. College in Mississippi. He was married to Shirley Ann Smith of Merryville, LA from November 1962 until death did they part this past Monday night. Bobby was an outstanding football player in high school and college. He also played semi-pro football for the Lake Charles Pelicans. He is listed as a member of the All-Time DeRidder Football Team along with other area great players. He began attending Beth-El Apostolic Church in 1998 where he was a Charter Member. He was baptized in the beautiful name of Jesus in 2002. He loved to sing specials and “tell the story of Jesus and His glory”.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Shirley Slaydon; 2 sons, Bobby Earl Slaydon, Jr. and wife Karen of Florien, LA and Kevin Lee Slaydon of DeRidder, LA; 1 daughter, Anna Lisa Pollock and husband Troy of Anacoco, LA; 1 sister, Linda Crain and husband Jimmy of DeRidder, LA; 1 brother, Webster Slaydon of Lumberton, TX; 2 brothers-in-law, Bob Spurlock of Porter, TX and Edwin Smith and wife Lynne of Hampshire, England; 1 sister-in-law, Charlotte Fountain and husband Jerry of Merryville, LA; 11 grandchildren, Leah & husband, Eric, Logan, Kara, Jacob, Aaron & wife, Tori, Laci, Sadie, Nick and Amber; 1 great granddaughter, Harleigh and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Ray Slaydon, 1 sister, Lula Faye Spurlock and 2 sisters-in-law, Bessie Slaydon and Marie Slaydon.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 15, 2014, from 5pm until 9pm at Beth-El Apostolic Church in DeRidder. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 11 AM at Beth-El Apostolic Church, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA. Services will be conducted by Pastor Trent Holman, Rev. George L. Glass, Jr., Bobby Earl Slaydon, Jr., and Jerry Fountain. Interment will be at Cooper Cemetery on Hwy 190 West of DeRidder.
