Bettye Christine Smith's Obituary
Funeral services for Bettye Christine Smith, 89, of Kingsland, TX, and formerly of Longville, LA, will be held at 10 A M, Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at the Longville First Baptist Church in Longville, LA, with Rev. James Carson, Rev. Johnny Johnson and Rev. Lindsey Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Barentine Cemetery near Longville under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Visitation will be from 4 P M until 8 P M, Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
Christine was born October 29, 1927, October 29, 1927, in Minden, LA and passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017, in Kingsland.
She was a graduate of Minden high School and attended Northwestern State College in Natchitoches before moving to Longville, LA, to teach school. She taught in both Beauregard and Allen Parishes. On March 7, 1947, Christine married Louis Leon Smith of Longville and they spent their married life in both Longville and Oberlin, LA. Christine was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsland, TX; Order of the Eastern Star in Louisiana and Texas and the National Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L. L. Smith; parents, H. C., Sr., and Era O’Rear Cox, of Minden, LA; brother H. C. Cox, Jr. of Minden, LA; sister, Nina “Polly” Cox Totten of Shreveport, LA.
Christine is survived by one son, Thomas Leon Smith of Longville, LA; three daughters, Sharon Temple and husband Mike of Austin, TX, Judy Latimer and husband Wes of Splendora, TX, and Brenda Emmons and husband Stan of Kingsland, TX. She is also survived by two grandsons, Kristopher Leon Smith and wife Darlene, who are stationed in Guam, and Brent Campbell and wife Keely of Baton Rouge, LA; and one great grandson, Connor Reid Campbell of Baton Rouge. Also surviving are one sister, Nelwyn Weaver and husband Malcolm of Shreveport; sister-in-law, Maxine Wall Cox of Minden, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
