Bettie Jean Phillips' Obituary
Funeral services celebrating the life of Bettie Jean Phillips will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Joseph Garner officiating, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Bettie Jean (Gaines) Phillips was born November 26, 1942, in Leesville, LA to the union of Hannah (Gaines) Knight and Robert Gaines.
Bettie Jean was a life-long resident of Leesville, where she worked as a telephone operator and retail store manager. She was a faithful member of New Willow Baptist Church and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, served as an usher and deaconess. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
She departed this life on April 20, 2014, to be reunited with her father, Robert Gaines, her mother Hannah Knight and her son, Gerry Phillips. She was married to her devoted husband, Ulmer Phillips on July 14, 1962. To this union, six children were born.
She leaves to cherish her memory two brothers; David Gains(Cindy), Mesquite, TX; Hubert Knight, Dallas, TX; two sisters; Joanne Gaines, Dallas, TX; and Mary Gaines Dallas, TX; four sons, Robert Gaines (Denise), Port St. Lucie, FL; Jeff Phillips (Angela), Murphy, TX; Terry Phillips (Maxine), Tampa, FL and Anthony Phillips, Tampa, FL; one daughter, Vickie Phillips-Neal (Wendell), Dallas, TX; 14 grandchildren, Michelle, Melissa, Mike, Shannon, Maxine, Brandon, Justin, Terrence, A.J., Terrell, Olivia, Cique, Tahj and Nickolas; 12 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and host of other relative and friends.
