Ben graduated from DeRidder High School where he was an active member of the Dragon Band. He attended McNeese State College for two years where he was also a member of the Cowboy Band. Ben enlisted in the United States Navy where he served four years that included active duty in Viet Nam on the USS Schofield. Following his military service he attended a 2 year electronics school and worked for a number of years with Texas Instruments in Houston and in Colorado Springs. Upon returning to the DeRidder area Ben acquired a contract postal route in the rural outskirts of Merryville, Louisiana. Ben loved the outdoors and had a passion for hunting and fishing on his beloved Old River where he lived and ultimately retired.
