Auta Bruce "Shorty" Highsmith, SR.'s Obituary
Funeral service for Auta Bruce “Shorty” Highsmith, Sr., 88, of Princeton, Texas, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA, Rev. Gary Evers officiating. Burial will follow in Whitaker Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and Wednesday, April 16, 2014, from 9 A M until time of the service at the funeral home in DeRidder.
“Shorty” was born on November 6, 1925, to Oscar Harold and Zettie Loggins Highsmith in Steep Creek, TX. He was a pipeline welder and was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Local 106, Lake Charles, LA, for over fifty years. He was a veteran of WWII in the European Theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Highsmith is survived by his wife of 63 years Eunice Young Highsmith of Princeton, TX; two sons, Rod Highsmith and wife JoAnn of San Francisco, CA, and A. B. Highsmith, Jr. of Emeryville, CA; daughter, Brenda Highsmith Allbritton and husband Myron of McKinney, TX; sister, Nadine Berwick of Orange, TX; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.
