Atward Derwood Houston's Obituary
Funeral service for Atward D. Houston, 82, of Reids Community, LA will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Hopewell United Methodist Church, Blackjack Cemetery Road, Reids Community, LA, with Rev. Louis Robertson and Rev. Sharon Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Blackjack Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.
Visitation began on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at 5:00 PM and will continue Thursday, May 8, 2014, until service time at Hopewell United Methodist Church.
Mr. Houston was born on June 16, 1931, to Atward H. and Gladys Ruth LaCaze Houston in Reids, Louisiana. He lived almost all his life in the Reids Community area and was a dragline operator for Calcasieu Paper Company in Elizabeth, LA and Boise Southern Paper Mill in DeRidder, and had also been employed with IPC in Mobile, AL. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving overseas in Germany.. Mr. Houston passed from this life on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in Alexandria, LA.
He is survived by his wife of 47+ years, Helen Marie Houston; one son, Brandon Derwood Houston; one daughter, Ann Bernadett Houston, all of Reids Community, LA; two grandchildren, Whitney and Myron; and one sister, Shirley Johnson also of Reids Community. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Billie Brown.
