Arthur H. "Huey" Gill's Obituary
Arthur H. “Huey” Gill entered peacefully into rest on Wednesday April 12, 2023, at the age of 78 years, at Westwood Manor in DeRidder. Huey was born on June 13, 1944 in Sugartown, LA to Ransom L. and Mame Estelle Deason Gill.
Huey was a very special man. Those who knew him, knew he always had a story or a joke to tell. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Anyone that knew him, has a story or joke that will stay with them for a lifetime. He met and married the love of his life, Aimee in 1972. Huey and Aimee were married for 47 years. They raised 3 boys together. Huey worked for many years for Jimmy Lewis, he also worked at Simmons Tractor for some time. He joined the BPSO and was a Deputy for 17 years. He absolutely loved being a part of the department during his time there. He was a member of the Sam Todd Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Playing the guitar was a huge passion of his. He also enjoyed working in the garden. One of the proudest moments in Huey’s life was when his granddaughter Aspen was born. He and Aimee were such a huge part of her life, and her theirs. He said, Aspen was the little girl they never had. He will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM in the chapel of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, starting a 2:00 PM with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Gill and Bro. Frank Ott, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Smyrna Cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Funeral Services under the care and direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
Left to cherish his memory is his three sons, Kevin Cooley, Sr. and wife Laurie of Natchitoches, Bobby Cooley and wife Tiffany of Rosepine, and Billy Cooley and wife Angie of DeRidder; seven grandchildren, Keith Cooley and wife Jessie, Jeremy Cooley and wife Nikki, Abigail Ducote, Heather Hooks and husband Landis, Justin Vick, Drew Vick and wife Carrie, and Aspen Cooley, eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, R.L. and Estelle Gill; his loving wife, Aimee Gill; son, Raymond Michael Cooley; two sisters, Nadine Payton, and Ila Faye Holliday.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.
