Alpha J. "Al" Heath's Obituary
Alpha J. “Al” Heath, 88, of DeRidder, LA, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Rosepine, LA.
Al was born on Sunday, August 8, 1926, at Winnsboro, Louisiana to Felton and Callie Jackson Heath and was one of twelve children. He loved athletics, especially baseball. He also loved hunting, fishing and running beagles. Al proudly served in the United States Army where he served in Korea and Viet Nam and later retired from the military as Sargent First Class, with numerous medals of honors and letters of commendation. Al worked as an X-Ray Technician at Beauregard Memorial Hospital. He loved his family, gardening and helping his neighbors. Al was a faithful member of the First United Pentecostal Church of DeRidder, Louisiana.
He is survived by his sons, Rev. Stephen C. Simmons and wife Nancy of Rosepine, LA and Rev. Rex A. Simmons and wife Linda of Beaumont, TX; two daughters, Linda Carolyn Good and husband George of DeRidder, LA and Loretta Sue Cooley and husband Roger of DeRidder, LA; 2 brothers, Sam Heath of Naples, FL and Jack Heath of Winnsboro, LA; 3 sisters, Agnes Shockley of San Antonio, TX, Susie Welch of Winnsboro, LA and Harvie Belle Robertson of Winnsboro, LA;
22 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 15 great, great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Catherine “Rosella” Heath; his parents; son, Sam Simmons; brother, Mark, John & Henry Heath; sisters, Frankie Bryan, Genell Eskew and Geneva Hawthorne.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 10, 2014, at 11:00 AM at the First United Pentecostal Church in DeRidder, LA with Rev. Jeff Phillips and Rev. Zale Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2014, 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the First United Pentecostal Church of DeRidder, LA.
