Alma Lee Wilson Brown's Obituary
Mrs. Alma Lee Wilson-Brown, a mother, daughter, wife, sister, aunt, Poet Laureate, educator, and most importantly a child of God, who was called home to be with her maker on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 12:30 p.m.
Mrs. Brown was born on September 10, 1930 in Leesville, LA, to her parents Barney and Essie Wilson, who had preceded her in death.
She attended all of her grade-level education in Leesville, her undergraduate education was from Wiley College, Marshall, TX, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree and her graduate education came from Texas Southern University, Houston, TX, where she received her Masters of Education Degree. In addition, she had spent numerous hours studying in post graduate-level courses.
Mrs. Brown returned back to her home and followed her love of education, as being a teacher(General Science, Biology, and Home Economics), plus she had a point in time as being a Ladies Basketball Coach for Vernon High School. She retired in 1973, but later went back into the Educational System and worked in several capacities, including teaching Head Start, Early Childhood Education, and being the In-School Suspension (I.S.S.) Teacher at Leesville Junior High School. She was a very active member of her church, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and of her community, until her health began to slow her down.
Mrs. Alma L. Brown was a loving wife to Alex Brown, until he preceded her in death in 1975. She leaves to sadly mourn her two children, Terence Alexander Brown and Tonya Faith Brown-Johnson, three grandchildren: T’Mond Alexander Johnson, Ta’Shoyn Rainier Johnson, and Ta’Onyal Faith Johnson. Also, she leaves to mourn her siblings: Dorothy Benson (DeSoto, TX), Maxine Gunn, Comeola Smith, and Barney J. Wilson(All of Leesville), Maudry Williams (Chicago, IL), J.D. Wilson (Detroit, Michigan), “Deceased” Juanita Johnson Brown, “Deceased” Freddie L. McClanahan, and a host of nieces, nephews, and Christian friends.
Lastly, she will not be forgotten, but truly remembered, as being a loving and faithful mother who trusted God and is now safe and at rest.
The services, for Mrs. Alma L. Brown will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. and a wake will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. both at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Leesville, LA. Burial will follow in the Leesville Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
