Alma Smith Johnson's Obituary
Funeral services for Alma Smith Johnson, 89, of Evans, LA will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church, in Evans with Rev. Melvin Smith & Rev. George Jeane officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery, in Evans, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held at the church from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., Friday, March 30th, and again from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, March 31st prior to the funeral service at 1 p.m.
Alma was born May 15, 1922, in Evans, LA. She passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at her home in Evans.
Mrs. Johnson was valedictorian of her 1939 Evans High School graduating class. She married the love of her life, Buddie Johnson, and they settled and raised their family in the Houston area. Upon retirement they returned to Evans, where she was a homemaker and member of Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church.
After seventy years of marriage she was widowed in 2009. She was preceded in death by husband, O.G. “Buddie” Johnson; daughters, Carolyn Peppard & Joan Carroll; grandson, Charles Peppard, and five siblings.
She is survived by her son, Johnnie R. & wife Donna Johnson of Spring, Texas; brother, Norris Smith of Evans; sister, Blanche Reynolds of Houma, LA; five grandchildren, Tracie Peppard, Kimberley Hayes, Christopher Johnson, Karen Kashyap & John David Johnson and three great grandchildren, Kylie Hayes, Hunter Hayes and Lorien Johnson.
