Mrs. Dye was a well-known figure at each and every event her sons were participants, from Killeen, Texas to Kaplan, La, to Pickering, La. Sitting at her table was an event. A master of Cajun cuisine, she cooked for family and friends alike. Many coaches and musicians were also privileged to have had her gumbo, rice and gravy, etoufee, and cush cush.
Her family was her life and they all knew it. All of her family’s friends quickly became family, too. With her ever-present smile, this war bride always welcomed people in her home with a funny story and a quick wit. Many evenings were spent playing cards around the supper table after the dishes were put aside.
